Condolences
Our condolences go out to the family of Retired FF Gary Manchester who passed away after a lengthy illness earlier this month. More info to follow.
New Arrivals
Congratulations go out to FF Chris Cook and his wife Christen on the arrival of their first child. Christopher John Cook was born on August 26 and weighed in at 6 pound 7 ounces. Momma and baby are both doing well at their home in Melrose. Chris has been a Firefighter for over 8 years and is currently our union Vice-president.
Congratulations also go out to FF Steve Judge and his wife Cameron on the birth of their first child. Emi Ray Judge was born this past April weighing in at a healthy 6 pounds 15 ounces. Steve has been a Firefighter since July of 07 where he is currently assigned to Fire Alarm on group 3. He and his new family reside here in Melrose.
Our condolences go out to the family of Firefighter Robert Driscoll on the loss of their father Robert E. Driscoll this past April. He was 68. Robert E. was a USMC veteran and worked at Polaroid Corp. He is survived by his wife Chester along with 8 children and 19 grandchildren. FF Driscoll was elected to the Secretary/Treasurer of Local 1617 this past winter and has also been deployed to Iraq along with his USAF unit for the last 5 months. He was allowed to attend his fathers funeral but had to return to his unit almost immediately. FF Driscoll has been a member of the Melrose Fire Dept. since April of 2002. We wish him a speedy and safe return.
New Arrival
Congratulations go out to FF Jay Morneault and his wife Maria on the arrival of their first child. Marissa Nicole Morneault was born on March 21 @ 11:24pm and weighed in at a healthy 7 pounds 8 ounces. Mother and daughter are doing just fine. Jay has been a firefighter here in Melrose since 2000 and is currently assigned to Engine 3 on Group 3.
Our condolences go out to the family of Retired Firefighter Thomas "Billy" Stretton who passed away in Florida. Billy was a member of the Department from 1964 - 1989 and retired from Group 2, Engine 2. Funeral arrangements are through the Robinson's Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose. Visiting hours will be from 4 - 8 pm on Thursday, January 3 and the funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 561 Main St., Melrose Friday, January 4 at 10 am. (obituary)
Congratulations
On November 7th the members of Group 4 and retired FF Neil Sullivan received awards from Gov. Patrick at Faneuil Hall in Boston during the annual Firefighter of the year award ceremony. Good Luck
Good luck to FF Kevin O'Keefe who recently transferred to Chelsea Fire. Kevin was a very respected 10 year veteran of the Melrose Fire Department and active union member. We will surely miss his great sense of humor and his legendary practical jokes.
FF Neil Sullivan Fund
As a result of the debilitating leg injury suffered at the August 7th, 2005 3 alarm fire on Everett St. the "FF Neil Sullivan Fund" has been created to assist Neil and his young family. Contributions can be made at the Melrose School & Municipal Employee Credit Union located at 616 Main St., Melrose MA 02176.
We welcome Eric Christopher to our ranks after his transfer from Gloucester Fire. Eric worked in Gloucester for 9 years primarily on their rescue/ambulance squad as a paramedic/firefighter. He grew up here in Melrose and has always considered it home and is thrilled to now have the opportunity to serve his neighbors and friends.
